Good designs are based on underlying grid systems that help to provide consistent locations for type and graphic elements resulting in an ordered, legible design.

I laid out a given text within an 8" x 8" page with 1/4" margins, four columns with 1/4" gutters and four rows with 1/4" gutters. To accent the title, I aligned it to the right margin of a grid square and let it cross the center line, creating a surprise that stands out from the clean lines and regularity of the rest of the text.
